The SHE rep is a representative that covers Safety, Health, and Environmental hazards. Charged with ensuring safety in the workplace, SHE rep duties include proactive employee training; protection for workers from potential hazards; and communication about hazardous accidents, should they occur.

A HIRA is a risk assessment tool that can be used to assess which hazards pose the greatest risk in terms of how likely they are to occur and how great their potential impact may be. It is not intended to be used as a prediction tool to determine which hazard will cause the next emergency.

The purpose of this unit standard is to enable learners to apply basic health and safety legislation in the form of standards and procedures governing health and safety in the workplace, to ensure that they contribute to a safe, healthy environment for themselves and others.

The course offers the learner the opportunity to gain an understanding of the Construction Regulations wherein, they will be able to apply legal referencing, understand the importance of compliance and be familiar with the processes and procedures regarding professional registration.

This unit standard enables learners to interpret health and safety legislation, and advise management on issues, which threaten the safety of people in the workplace.

A foreman or foreperson supervises and coordinates the work of a crew of workers in a specific craft or trade. Foremen are primarily concerned with seeing that the workers under them do their job skillfully and efficiently, and that assigned work progresses on schedule.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to demonstrate the ability to conduct investigations into workplace incidents. The competency includes all the activities required to successfully conduct incident investigations.

Fulfil the role of supervisor and appreciate the challenges faced in this position.
